Kid Spark’s Mobile STEM Labs combine hands-on experience with robust, NGSS-aligned curriculum to inspire lifelong learning and teaching in STEM. Kid Spark’s four mobile STEM labs and curriculum are designed for students in K-8 and are easy to use with or without prior STEM experience! Each lab is entirely reusable and carefully curated to ensure seamless implementation and, like other STEM curriculum resources, the Kid Spark content progresses through four learning phases.
The four phases of the Kid Spark curriculum include these topics and discussion areas: Foundational Fluencies, STEM Fundamentals, Applications in Design and Engineering, and Systems of Technology, covering concepts like robotics, prototyping, systems design, and, of course, engineering! Moving through the four Kid Spark kits—each of which can be used to teach students of different ages—teachers can help their students learn key engineering fundamentals. The four kits are the Engineering Pathways Mobile STEM Lab, the Young Engineers Mobile STEM Lab, the ROK Blocks Mobile STEM Lab, and the SnapStack Mobile STEM Lab, which you can learn more about on our store.
The most robust of the Kid Spark kits, the Engineering Pathways Mobile STEM Lab serves four students and helps teachers introduce computer science and robotics in Grades 3-8. With a systemic thinking approach, students can learn about design and engineering, sensors, applied mathematics, and a lot more! The curriculum for this kit also helps teachers cover core concepts like mechanisms and movement, applied mathematics, programmable robotics, computational thinking, and simple and compound machines, making it a comprehensive teaching option for teachers of upper elementary and middle school.
Designed for students in Grades 3-6, the Young Engineers Mobile STEM Lab supports long-term learning and helps create ongoing and deep exploration of STEM concepts. No computer, device, or programming is necessary and students can start to learn about things like the design process, remote-controlled robotics, compound machines, and more! It’s awesome for getting students to work with their hands while collaborating with one another in just about any classroom, library, or makerspace environment.
Then, we have the ROK Blocks Mobile STEM Lab. Intended for use in Grades K-5, the ROK Blocks Lab is ideal for students with minimal STEM experience. Students can follow instructions for building machines with lots of organization and no intimidation. It can help them build foundational math fluencies and introduce them to concepts like motion and strength. Since it’s designed for the youngest group of students, the ROK Blocks kit makes an effective option for teachers who want to ease students into more involved STEM experiences.
Finally, there is the SnapStack Mobile STEM Lab, which is intended for middle school students, specifically in Grades 6-8. The SnapStack Lab covers challenging and non-intuitive scientific concepts. Students can explore things like advanced compound machines and mechanical advantage with a new engineering challenge in each lesson, seeing how to use the design and engineering cycle to problem solve!
In addition to these four Kid Spark kits, we also have a cool transportation option for easily moving them around. The Kid Spark Rolling Bases are completely stackable and can be stored or transported on the Rolling Base! The Rolling Base is compatible with all four Kid Spark kits and teachers can stack various kits (depending on size), making moving and storage easy! Especially if you’re all about portability and easily moving your STEM tools from one place to another, this is something you might want to try!
