Squishy Circuits

In these last few weeks before winter break, it’s easy to get distracted from learning. And we get it—everyone needs a break! In the meantime, though, we put together this list of festive projects from some of our favorite STEM tools. Kids can make a mold for a chocolate dreidel, have a robot snowball fight, or even craft custom snowflake

We have presented our November EdTech grant to Charnley DeMeritt, who is a STEM lab teacher at the Oakview Elementary School, which is located in Simpsonville, SC! Part of the Greenville School System, their STEAM lab has evolved into a place where all students can experiment, think critically, and develop both hard and soft skills from their initial failures.

Back in June, we announced a new educational technology grant program to award $500 of STEM tools to one deserving recipient every month. Our selection committee met this week and awarded the first grant to Melinda Pastuszak, a teacher with the Chamberlayne Elementary School (Virginia). Mindy is in the process of planning the launch of a new STEAM program!

With Squishy Circuits, students in preschool and the early grades can enjoy a new kind of interactive learning experience. No longer is tech integration something to fear when it comes to young kids. As long as it’s done purposefully and with the right tools, it can provide a wealth of valuable learning opportunities in early education.

These cool kits are designed for play-based learning! By building a number of experiments, students can learn various circuitry basics and experiment with conductive and insulating dough, LEDs, and other accessories. Using the Squishy Circuits kits, they’re also able to get hands-on while they learn about conductivity, simple circuits, series, and parallel circuits.

When it comes to Squishy Circuits, you can try, but you probably will not be able to find an EdTech kit better catered to easy-going, open-ended play! Each of the three Squishy Circuits kits (Lite, Standard and Deluxe) encourage children as young as 8 years old to roll up their proverbial sleeves and start building.
