We’re excited to be able to present another dedicated educator with an EdTech grant. For the month of January, we’ve selected Kern Kelley, a middle school teacher from RSU 19 in Newport, Maine as the recipient! Among all of the submissions we received, Kern’s stood out to us due to the connections to the spirit of the Maker Movement.

This new release contains a carefully selected set of Bits designed to help educators discover how littleBits can help students learn and grow through STEAM. The kit allows teachers to get a feel for teaching with littleBits and allows district leaders to observe how well students interact with the technology before committing to purchasing larger kits.

Our friends from the Ozobot team released their highly anticipated Ozobot Classroom learning management system in the last month, providing some new and helpful options for teaching coding with the Ozobot Evo. With this free, web-based platform, any educators with two or more Evo Robots can gain real-time insights that are as exciting to discover as they are valuable.

We know that it’s exciting for educators and tech specialists when they hear about upgrades or new features to some of their favorite STEM tools, so, this week, we’re talking about some of the latest updates to some of the technologies on our store, including a few that have to do with some of our favorite big-name brands.

The full title of this presentation is “Combining SEL, STEAM, and Maker Ed tools to increase student learning capacity.” If selected, we’ll be discussing the commonalities that STEAM and SEL efforts share as well as how some MakerEd tools help teachers create these experiences. Specifically, maker tools help teachers connect the heads, hearts, and hands of students.

Times have changed and some more traditional teaching methods are not always as effective these days, resulting in children looking for more active learning experiences and ways to tie their learning into their own lives. We have awarded our final $500 EdTech grant of the year (and of the decade!), closing out 2019 with over $5,000 worth of technology contributions to schools and teachers around the country! For the month of December, we’ve awarded our grant to Ellen Peterson, a STEM and technology teacher at the Smithfield Middle School in Smithfield, VA.
