It's understandable that, when the NAO Robot V6 was released, K-12 and college educators may have felt their commitment to earlier NAO models was for naught. It remains true, however, that this isn't necessarily the case. Thanks to the NAO trade-in programs, which expanded to include discounted access to the NAO V6 AI Edition, educators can get a bit of a return on earlier investments. With this offer, any educator with a NAO V5 or standard NAO V6 Robot can trade it in and put its value towards the cost of the NAO AI Edition. If you ask us, it's a pretty sweet deal and an easy opportunity to level up your robotics resources.

The newest NAO Robot—the world's most advanced humanoid—is known as the NAO V6 AI Edition. If you have a V5 or V6, trading it in for the AI Edition—like with the previous NAO Robot trade-in program—is very easy. We offer a smooth trade-in process that helps teachers to get their hands on the latest in educational robotics technology and save on the cost of a new one. With lots of hardware and software improvements, the AI Edition is the absolute best in the business for teaching your students about coding, computational thinking, and, of course, artificial intelligence.

The AI Enabled NAO Robot.

The V6 costs $12,990 (after increases in the last couple years) and the AI Edition is slightly higher than that. Currently, without a trade-in, the NAO AI Edition starts at $14,990. Through the trade-in program, however, teachers receive a bit of a discount on the newer model. If you trade in your V5 robot, it costs just $10,900. If you trade in a regular NAO V6, it costs $9,500. To ensure clear communication, we're definitely willing to have a conversation with anybody who's interested in going over the details. This way, we can learn more about your vision and resources and recommend the right solution for you. If you think that you'd benefit from this type of consultation, feel free to get in touch.

The NAO V6 AI Edition is the same shape and size to previous models with its same friendly face as well. It is now copper or rose gold in color, however, rather than the gray, blue, and red options from the past. Like it always has, the NAO AI Edition enables unique human-robot interactions and it's viable in both education and industry. As for teaching coding in high school or college, this trade-in program helps with providing more equitable access as well. It also enables college students to gain more practical experience simply by running simulations and exploring authentic uses of AI.

The NAO’s advanced API and full SDK also help children sharpen computer science, problem solving, and computational thinking skills. Included with these AI Edition packs and trade-in options are the robot itself, a charger, a battery, RobotLAB's Level 1 support, unlimited STEAM lessons found in NAO’s Choregraphe programming software, a 1-year warranty, and more. When it comes to improvements from the previous models, there are five main features you'll get with the AI Edition: chatbot integration, conversation mode, presenter mode, 5G wireless connectivity, and its new 3D simulation tool. Also, there are new compatible coding languages, including Java, C#, and Matlab, that are now available.

The key set of improvements to the AI Edition have to do with its AI capabilities. The new NAO features much of the same technology as its predecessors but with some notable upgrades. In addition to the 5G technology and simulation tool, the AI Edition also comes with unlimited Choregraphe licenses. Also, the NAO’s vision, fluid movements, and ability to interact with humans remains as impressive as ever. And, it now boasts seven key sensors that help provide it with new sensing abilities. These include the ability to move, feel, hear, speak, see, connect, and even think.

Features of the NAO AI robot.

In addition to these abilities, using the trade-in option to upgrade to the NAO AI Edition also involves new sensors. Previously, the robots might become confused when given verbal commands, especially in public settings with lots of noise. The technology within the AI Edition, however, provides improved understanding as well as additional upgrades. For example, a 5-MP camera helps it to see its entire environment and four omnidirectional microphones ensure it hears all verbal cues. Plus, it has force-sensitive resistors, position sensors, tactile sensors, and a dual-stream media system powered by top and bottom cameras.

Also, in terms of vision, the cameras help it learn to recognize figures and identify faces and shapes. And, as for AI connections, the new NAO is capable of thinking on its own. Plus, using Conversational Mode, it can have authentic conversations with humans, using this ability to distinguish each specific word and the actual meaning behind them all. For some perspective, most other AI robots are simply capable of picking out key verbal cues and replying to those. The AI technology in the new NAO, however, helps it determine intent behind each phrase, enabling much more fluid conversations.
